Festivals and Events Calendar

Onslow County plays host to numberous events and festivals:  Mullet Festival, Arts By The Sea Festival, Oktoberfest, Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival, Kuumba Festival, and Holly Festival.

 January 13 Are there bears on Bear Island?  At 10am in Hammocks Beach State Park, 1572 Hammocks Beach Rd., Swansboro, NC.  Join a park ranger as we explore the various species of bear that roam our forests and call it their home.  January 14 Polish New Years Dinner and Dance.  At 6pm-9pm at SywanykS Club, Jacksonville NC.  This is an annual event attended by many folks in the tri-county area. Dress Polish if you can, the only dress code is men must wear a shirt with a collar.  Tickets are $ 10.00 per person.  For more information call (910) 382-3840.
 January 17 Hatchling Hikers:  A Preschool Nature Series.  At 10am in Hammocks Beach State Park, 1572 Hammocks Beach Rd., Swansboro, NC.  We will read a story, make a craft, and take a short hike- all about the topic of the day.  January 18 Planets and Stars.  At 6pm in Hammocks Beach State Park, 1572 Hammocks Beach Rd., Swansboro, NC.  Join a park ranger as we explore our night skies and look for the different planets and constellations that light up our skies above. If it's a clear night we will bring out the telescope and binoculars to see what may be showing tonight. Bring your own if you have them. PROGRAM IS WEATHER DEPENDENT.  January 25 Groundhogs.  At 10am in Hammocks Beach State Park, 1572 Hammocks Beach Rd., Swansboro, NC.  Join a park ranger to learn about the natural history of this marmot as we dive into the history of this holiday in which we celebrate on February 2nd each year.  January 26 The Fallen Log.  At 4pm in Hammocks Beach State Park, 1572 Hammocks Beach Rd., Swansboro, NC.  Join a park ranger as we explore the world under a log in the forest. We will discover the little animal and plant communities that live in and on one of our fallen logs. Prepare to get your hands dirty. Beirut Memorial   Beirut Memorial. Cape Lookout   Cape Lookout Lighthouse is one of North Carolina's seven famous lighthouses. The Lighthouse has been a navigational aid to seafarers since 1859. Onslow Vietnam Memorial   Onslow Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  The memorial is dedicated to the men and women from all branches of the military who served during the Vietnam era.
